WASW Gathering - Movement
September 7-9, 2018 in Denmark, Maine
To most people, healthy movement means exercise. But moving your body is about so much more, like improved thinking, stronger relationships, and expressing your purpose in life. Tuning in to the physical body is a tool to feel grounded, confident, and capable.
As humans, we move our bodies to express our wants, needs, emotions, thoughts, and ideas. Ultimately, how we move — and how often we give ourselves permission to move — directly relates to how we engage with the world. Cultivating a connection to your physical body supports the way you think, feel, and establish your larger purpose in life. September's gathering aims to explore different forms of movement, guided by Christa, who has been on a recent quest of re-connecting to her own body after many years of disconnection. With her guidance in yoga and dance, combined with personal time to hike, swim, paddle and more outside, this weekend will aim to answer the question, "How do you move… and how could you potentially move?"
Christa Whitney is currently the director of the Yiddish Book Center's Wexler Oral History Project. She spent most of her life dancing, practicing yoga and moving in a way that made her feel joyous, expressive and free. However, five years ago she found herself in a position where she had to put that movement aside while creating a project she felt passionate about. This has been a decision that's weighed heavily on her for years, and only recently has she been in a position to make a change. Christa will share her story of how she went from working all the time, to figuring out how to re-introduce movement back into her life and in what ways we might do the same.

What You Can Bring
Swimsuit, wine, mocktail-cocktail fixings, other beverages, something sweet to share (chef’s choice, dairy-soy free chocolate), tea, snacks, yoga mats, headlamp, and something for the alter (you can find something on site too). Also, surprises are great too!
Interested in joining us?
Please register as soon as you can. With only 7-8 spaces available, we will also be putting together an overflow list, which will be used to fill cancelations as well as inspire the potential for further gatherings.
The cost of this gathering is on a sliding scale of $75-$150. This will allow us to purchase high quality, fresh and local ingredients for all meals, treats, activity supplies, firewood and campsites. Please give what you can and don't overextend yourself. We strive to keep the costs of these gatherings as low as possible, but if this price range is outside of your budget, please be in touch.
Note: If you are able to pay $150, you will help someone else participate. Thank you!
After you donate to the gathering's sliding scale, you will be directed to a questionnaire where we'll ask for a bit more information about your good self.
